Peter J. Hill Jr. of Bridgehampton died on August 31 at Southampton Hospital, just one day short of his 88th birthday.

Born September 1, 1920, in Dothan, Alabama, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Queensboro College in Queens and Albany State University in Georgia. He was also a member of the Masons and the DC37 Union and worked as manager for the New York City Housing Authority in the race relations department.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Hill; two daughters, Candace Hill-Montgomery and Deborah Hill; and a son, Peter Hill, all of Bridgehampton; a sister, Esther Ruth Williams, of Michigan; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews. A sister, Electra Burney and a brother, Howard Hill predeceased him.

Funeral services were held on September 3 at the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton. Cremation followed.
