Phillip Herbert Holme of New York City died unexpectedly of natural causes on April 30. He was 31.
He was born on May 7, 1988 in New York City, the beloved son of Ana Maria and James Holme, and younger brother to Christopher.
He attended The Browning School, Twyford School in Winchester, England and Suffield Academy, where he was school president and excelled in academics and athletics, especially soccer, according to his family.
He spent a post-graduate year at The Lawrenceville School. Mr. Holme received a bachelor’s degree in 2010 with a double major in international affairs and international economics, and a minor in Latin American cultural studies from The Elliot School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
Upon graduation, he was recruited by the Newedge Group and moved to London. Within two years, he rose from intern to associate and broker/floor trader to become the first American to trade on the floor of the London Metal Exchange, is family noted.
He returned to New York City in 2014 to work for his family’s company, H&H Metals Corp., as the director of trading. He was to become the next president of H&H Metals Corp. upon the retirement of his father, his family said.
Mr. Holme was a visionary and a true lover of life, his family recalled. He had a magnetic personality and the remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel loved, they said.
He was an avid traveler who enjoyed exploring new places and had friends in every corner of the world, his family said. He was proud of his Peruvian heritage and delighted in sharing the country with his friends.
His spirit of adventure led him to scuba diving, rock climbing and bungee jumping. He had a true passion for the ocean, surfing and the lifelong friends he met through the sport, his family recalled. He spent many weekends boating on Long Island Sound with his brother, sister-in-law and friends.
Above all, Mr. Holme cherished his family, they said. One of his favorite weekend activities was playing golf with his father James at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, where he was a junior member. He was devoted to his mother Ana Maria and never shied away from publicly acknowledging his love and admiration for her.
He lived a very full life and will be remembered always for his humor, intelligence, smile, and most of all his incredibly kind and generous heart, according to his family.
Mr. Holme is survived by his parents Ana Maria (Martinelli) and James Holme; and his brother Christopher and sister-in-law Elizabeth (Moffitt). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, and numerous friends.
Arrangements were handled by Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. Calling hours were Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a memorial and celebration of his life planned for this summer.
