Pick My Brain

As I write this letter, our Republican/Conservative candidates for the East Hampton Town Board are dealing with a very disappointing situation. Three local groups have invited us to participate in debates about the issues for the coming election. Unfortunately, they insist on a Zoom format.

Why are they so unwilling to do an in-person debate? Instead, they have a fear-of-the-pandemic position. If this issue is not resolved, the public will be deprived of an opportunity to hear each of us address the vital issues that confront our Town Board.

I would like to offer a different opportunity for those of you who would like to participate. Each weekday, I walk for one and a half hours, starting about 7:30 a.m., at Appreciation Park (aka Stephen Hands Path Park). Only a heavy rain would keep me away.

I invite those of you who want to know my position on any timely topic to join me between 7:30 and 9 a.m. Come and join me and you will get healthy while picking my brain. If we run out of political topics, I’ll recite several poems that I have memorized over the years, with an emphasis on Robert Frost. You will be able to get exercise for your body and your mind.

I will be there five days a week until the end of October.
