Pierre R. Megroz Of Hampton Bays Dies March 14

Pierre R. Megroz, longtime resident of Larchmont and a U.S. Navy veteran, died at his daughter’s home in Rye on March 14, 2019. He was 92.

Mr. Megroz, known as “Pete” to family and friends, grew up in Paris and lower Westchester. He met Mary Jane “Mickey” Magnusson, who would become his wife, at New Rochelle High School. An avid athlete and sportsman, he was well-known for his love of tennis, paddle, badminton, golf, skin diving, and fishing. He was a member of Shenorock Shore Club since 1963, where he and his wife enjoyed many long and rewarding friendships. As a natural and inspiring leader, he served as president of the club for several years, co-authored a book about the club, and was instrumental in rebuilding Shenorock after a devastating Nor’easter.

After attending and playing basketball at Duke University, and graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, Mr. Megroz had a long and successful career that included his years as a vice president at Arbitron Ratings Company. Following his retirement, he and his wife traveled all over the world, spent the winter months in Puerto Rico, and continued to expand on a love of cooking and new adventures (such as scuba diving, for the first time, at age 62.) He split his time between their homes in Larchmont and Hampton Bays, where he enjoyed gardening, painting, woodworking and gathering often with family. Remaining fiercely independent, he loved proving his daughters wrong and driving with perfect mastery right up to the end.

Mr. Megroz was predeceased by parents, Dorothy and Georges Megroz; brothers, Georges and Jacques; and his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane “Mickey” Magnusson Megroz. He is survived by three daughters and their families, Kathryn Megroz Foley and husband Ted, daughters, Kristen (Ann-Marie) and Tara (Rachael); Dorothy “Dory” Megroz Reisner and husband Paul, children, Peter (Molly), Douglas (Katey), Tyler, Paul, Alexander and Charlotte; Susan Megroz Rosenzweig and husband Dean, and children, Emma, Clara, Harrison and Jacob. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Brayden, and Madelyn; and nine nieces and nephews; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m.
