Southampton Town Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman who is believed to have stolen several items at Ponquogue Beach and soon after tried to use a stolen credit card to make a purchase at a Riverhead store.
Police said that the items, which included at least one credit card, were stolen on August 13 at Ponquogue Beach. At about 6 that evening a woman entered the TJ Maxx store on Old Country Road in Riverhead and tried, unsuccessfully, to make a purchase with the stolen credit card.
Police have released an image from the store’s security camera of the woman who tried to use the stolen credit card and may be related to the thefts at the beach earlier.
Anyone with information about the woman’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call town detectives at 631-702-2230. All calls will be kept confidential.
