The body of Keith Viagas, 63, of Upper Sag Harbor Cove was found on the shore on the south side of Long Beach Road in Sag Harbor on the morning of Monday, August 8.
Southampton Town Police were called at approximately 11:43 a.m. by a witness who discovered the body along the shore of Upper Sag Harbor Cove. They initially sought the public’s help in discerning his identity.
A search of the area offered no clue as to whether Viagas had been in a boating accident or fell from a paddleboard, or was swimming and suffered a medical event.
Family and his partner requested privacy and declined to comment this week. No funeral or memorial arrangements have been publicized so far.
According to his Facebook bio, Viagas was the former director for artistic planning at the New York City Opera and worked at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. He studied music theory and composition at Julliard and was originally from Franklin Square.
His social media posts show support of local causes and institutions, like LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, and in 2018 he made his film debut in a short horror film titled “Cain.”
