A Hempstead man was arrested by New York State Troopers on Monday night and accused of driving a party bus full of drunk teenagers on Sunrise Highway.Troopers responded to the rest area between Exits 65 and 66 on the eastbound side of the highway in Hampton Bays after a 911 caller reported hearing a female screaming at about 9:30 p.m., according to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers did not find anyone in distress—but they did find 42 intoxicated 16- and 17-year-olds inside a limousine bus, along with 100 cans of beer and several gallons of open bottles of rum and whiskey. One boy was so intoxicated that he had to be taken by ambulance to Southampton Hospital for treatment, State Police Investigator Michael Gould said Tuesday. The boy was released from the hospital after a few hours.Police arrested the driver, 26-year-old Louis Guevara-Henriquz, and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.Mr. Guevara-Henriquz, an employee of Farmingdale-based Coachman Luxury Transport, picked up the teens from Garden City earlier that evening and was en route to Montauk, according to police.Investigator Gould said the owners of Coachman were cooperative and he does not believe they had any knowledge of the underage drinking before it occurred, nor did the parents. Owners of the business could not be immediately reached by phone this week.Investigator Gould said he did not know why the limousine pulled off into the rest area. The teens were all picked up by their parents after the incident, and Mr. Guevara-Henriquz was released on an appearance ticket and is due back to Southampton Town Justice Court on April 23.The incident is still being investigated and further charges are pending, according to police.
