On Friday night, Southampton Town Police said they were looking for a dark sedan that may have been involved in the hit-and-run of a 3-year-old, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the course of the accident.
According to police, on Friday, July 23, around 6:42 p.m., they received a report of a child that had possibly been struck on Old Quogue Road in Riverside. The child, who was being supervised by his grandmother at a residence on the same roadway, wandered off. A good Samaritan, said police, found the child injured walking along the roadway. Police said the injuries the child sustained were consistent with being struck by a vehicle and that a witness reported a black sedan leaving the area where the child was found by the good Samaritan. Police said they do not know if they driver knows they struck a child at this point.
The child was transported to Stony Brook Hospital via Suffolk County Aviation with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, said police.
Police are looking for anyone with information regarding the accident or the vehicle in question and are asking potential witnesses to call the Southampton Town Detective Unit at 631-702-2230.
