Three incumbents, including Chairman Bryan Polite, and one newcomer, Kelly Dennis, were elected to the seven-member Shinnecock Nation Council of Trustees in annual voting on Tuesday, April 6.

Mr. Polite led all candidates with 181 votes to remain chairman and win his fourth term on the council.

“It feels good, but at the same time it is humbling,” he said. “I have the honor of serving my people, and it’s time to get to work to help move the nation forward.”

Ms. Dennis, who received 121 votes, will replace Daniel Collins, who did not seek another term.

Incumbent Treasurer Seneca Bowen, who received 158 votes, and incumbent General Counsel and Secretary Germain Smith, who received 140 votes, were also reelected.

Six other candidates also received votes: Lance Gumbs, 114; Marcus Williams, 46; Allan Hunter, 39; Julian Pellecier, 39; and Maurice Williams, 27.

Vice Chairman Randy King, Sachem Donald Williams, and Sunksqua Linda Franklin were not up for election this year.
