Positive Plans

Reading the article this past week regarding the housing pitch as part of the plan to build a 13,000-square-foot community center with 15 affordable apartments in Bridgehampton [“New Community Center And Affordable Apartments Eyed For Bridgehampton,” 27east.com, August 15], it sounds like a real good plan. This was discussed by the members of the Southampton Town Board at a work session on August 11.

Supervisor Jay Schneiderman noted support for the project using our own lands to provide more housing. I am in favor of this project and can see it used for the workforce rather than the senior dwellings.

I am not in favor of the proposal to build 70 units in Sag Harbor Village behind the stores on Main Street, proposed by Adam Potter, due to the well-known fact that it is in the flood area, where flooding has always been a problem. Also, we already have too many cars on the congested Main Street with little parking and do not need to add to this problem.

I think it is a good idea for local people who will rent these affordable apartments in Bridgehampton to volunteer for the fire department and the ambulance, as Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni stated. It would be good to see these positive plans go through and keep our local people here and not have to move out of the area.
