Thanks to the Southampton Town Democratic Committee for helping voters see clearly, in this upcoming November election, that the only truly qualified candidate for Southampton Town clerk is Sundy Schermeyer.
The Democrats’ current candidate Mark Bernardo’s background is in the entertainment industry: ABC, CBS News and Sports — hardly credentials for town clerk. To add more details from Bernardo’s bio, he is a volunteer usher and volunteer bartender at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center. Could these qualifications seal the deal? I doubt it.
Now, back to the real deal, current Southampton Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer.
As stated on the Town of Southampton website, “The office of the Town Clerk is historical in its traditions. Many duties are mandated by state and town laws.” Sundy Schermeyer’s duties and responsibilities are vast and varied, from being a records officer, registrar of vital statistics, filing officer, recording secretary, marriage and licensing officer. She was also president of the Nassau-Suffolk Town Clerks Association.
Just for the record, for 20 years, Sundy Schermeyer was cross-endorsed by the Southampton Town Democratic Committee. Now, the powers that be, decided to target her. Why?
To quote former New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., “Democrats, Republicans and independent voters all support Sundy Schermeyer.”
We don’t need chaos, confusion and on the job training in the clerk’s office. Sundy Schermeyer and her staff have consistently done a fabulous job. Calm professionalism and knowledge that currently exist in the office of the Southampton Town Clerk must remain.
Vote November 4. Reelect Sundy Schermeyer as Southampton Town clerk.
