In regard to the residents who are concerned about the proposed purchase of the BearCat ATV [“Southampton Chief Defends Decision To Purchase New Armored Vehicle for Town Police,” 27east.com, October 15]: What exactly are you saying to the men and women of the Southampton Town Police Department? Do we not value their lives?
Schools, churches and synagogues have all had mass shootings in the past few months. We have all of those assembly buildings in our town.
How will this department come to the aid of a wounded officer who is pinned down by gunfire during a mass shooting incident? Without protective vehicles you are condemning more officers to expose themselves in order to render aid to the injured officer.
To call these vehicles too militaristic for our town in light of current events is a grave mischaracterization of the facts.
Opposition to this request during this troubled time in our country is simply virtue signaling and should be rightly called out.

It’s election time and the arrows are flying, but they’re far off the target and only hurt those who launched them. Case in point: At a recent Bridgehampton-Noyac forum, it’s reported that the discussion was hijacked by supporters of Town...
As Election Day draws near, it is time to take stock of the last two years. I start by asking a simple question: Are you happy with your local way of life, and do you see improvements (even if small)?...

How is it that music that you can hear from your neighbor’s house is illegal, while a leaf blower that you hear from a mile away is legal? How utterly ironic. How is it that a few lazy, arrogant, uncaring,...
