Proven Record

Thank you to The Express News Group for hosting the debate with the candidates for North Haven Trustee on June 4 [“Watch: North Haven Village Board Candidates Debate,” 27east.com, June 5]. It highlighted that I am the most experienced candidate running for trustee, and also that I have a proven record of results as trustee over the five years that I have served the residents of North Haven.

I have worked hard to improve water quality in our creeks and ponds and have obtained four grants from the Town of Southampton Community Preservation Fund, totaling $300,000, to implement projects that will make meaningful improvements in Polles Creek, Genet Creek, Fresh Pond, Great Salt Pond and Ryder’s Pond. I have authored and passed code to protect our shoreline and wetlands.

I initiated the successful “Kick Ticks Out of North Haven” program, and I vote and advocate consistently for smart, balanced fiscal responsibility. These are concrete actions and results, to name only a few.

I care deeply about North Haven, and am actively involved in the community, having lived here for 35 years. I am a dedicated volunteer at the Sag Harbor Food Pantry, where I initiated the holiday toy drive. I am also a board member of the Sag Harbor Lions Club and have managed their Pierson scholarship fundraiser for the past two years. My husband, Jon, and I enjoy fishing and boating in the local bays in our free time.

My 37-year career at Colgate-Palmolive, as a senior finance executive, prepared me with the leadership and management experience to serve on the Village Board.

Running on the Community Vision Party, I am, and always have been, an independent voice for North Haven. I consistently encourage dialogue and constructive debate on the Village Board. As The East Hampton Star wrote in an editorial on May 1, 2025, “A diversity of opinions is necessary for democracy as a check and balance. Decisions made without healthy debate tend to go awry.” I listen and make decisions with facts and care. I always vote in the best interest of North Haven.

As the voters in North Haven prepare to make your choice for trustee on June 17, I ask for your consideration, to reelect me, Terie Diat, an experienced, independent voice for North Haven, with a proven record of results.

It would be my honor to continue to serve our community as your trustee.

Terie Diat
