Election Day is almost upon us. For anyone who does not believe mid-cycle elections are important, please take a moment to reconsider your view, be sure you are registered and learn where or how to vote. Early voting, voting on Election Day and absentee voting are all options. If you are still wondering whether you should vote, here are some of the issues that are on the line, and some of the candidates who can help us find a constructive and positive path forward.

Starting at the top, Suffolk County has a unique opportunity this year to elect a new voice to lead us as county executive. Dave Calone knows Suffolk County and has experience as a former prosecutor, businessman and community leader. He can lead the way with job creation, holding the line on taxes and protecting our precious environment.

Maria Moore represents a very positive choice for Town of Southampton supervisor. Her record of extraordinary experience in Westhampton Beach serves as the model for how other communities in the Town of Southampton can revitalize their downtowns and improve the lives of residents. Maria’s accomplishments in Westhampton Beach prove that political leaders can rise above the divisiveness that pervades our politics. She listens to all constituents and is a quiet master of consensus building. Simply put, she is an experienced town executive who can and will effectively lead the Town of Southampton while rising above the rancor that so often afflicts us at the local, state and national level.

With Bill Pell and Michael Iasilli at Maria’s side on the Town Board, Southampton will get things done to address the town’s most important issues: job creation, low taxes, preserving our extraordinary environment, making meaningful improvements to our traffic and congestion challenges, community housing and community safety.

Rounding out the top of this proven slate of candidates is Ann Welker, current Town Trustee running for Suffolk County legislator. She is a tireless champion of the environment and a leader in protecting and maintaining water quality in close collaboration with the Town Board. As our next county legislator, Ann, an inclusive leader, will work hard for all constituents.

Electing the entire Democratic slate for November 7 is our best chance at building on previous accomplishments in town government and improving our special town in the coming years. Vote Row A all the way.
