Quogue Field Club Hosts 10th Annual Teen Triathlon

The Quogue Field Club teen division highlighted the centennial summer of its junior sports camp program at its 10th annual Teen Triathlon on Saturday morning.

Nearly 30 teenagers — comprised of 13- and 14-year-olds — got up bright and early for a 7 a.m. start at Shinnecock Yacht Club to embark on a quarter-mile swim, followed by a 5.25-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run.

Gigi Goodwin was the overall winner of the triathlon, while there was a three-way tie for the boys race between George Fugelsang, Patrick Hentemann and Jack Sartorius.

This year’s triathlon raised funds in support of the The Moriches Bay Project, a small grassroots, not-for-profit 501c3 program that seeks to improve the quality of the water in Moriches Bay and turn it back to its natural state of health, which it does through oyster farming and eel grass planting. Following the triathlon, the athletes and community enjoyed the annual Dad’s Pancake Breakfast that typically follows. Junior sports chair Heather McAuliffe thanked the organizers of the breakfast — Rob Diamond, Eric Knuppel, Tony Leness, Philippe McAuliffe and Tim Rasic — as well as all the other fathers who volunteered their time early Saturday morning to make it a fun, festive and delicious event.

The hats sold at the event were sold out in 20 minutes. Artist and junior sports alumnus Rudy Wilson donated one of his designs for the hat’s artwork.
