Raymond Guthrie Downing of Westhampton Beach died at the Westhampton Care Center on Monday, April 28. He was 81.

Mr. Downing was born in Baltimore on September 23, 1926. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5350, the Westhampton Rotary Club, and an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda; four sons, Tom, Bob, Bill, and Jim; three daughters, Debbie, Fernanda, and Elizabeth; and seven grandchildren.

A wake will be held at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on Friday, May 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Westhampton Beach on Saturday, May 3, at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 887, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 or the Resident Council Westhampton Care Center, 78 Old Country Road, Westhampton, NY 11977 would be appreciated by the family.

A simple fact about the SALT deductions is being obscured with Nick Lakota’s statements in the news. If the 2017 tax rules expire, residents will once again be able to deduct 100 percent of their state and local taxes. If all New York representatives vote together, the new budget will fail. “Fighting” for a higher limit is unnecessary.
