Raymond O’Day of Southampton died on November 26 from complications following a stroke. He was 84.
Born in New York City and raised on Long Island, he followed his passion for flying by enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as a second Lieutenant flying B-25 bombers.
Following his military service, he graduated from Kent State University in 1949 and later attended law school at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He spent almost his entire professional career as an executive with the Guardian Life Insurance Company in New York City. Upon retiring in 1992, he spent winters in Tucson, Arizona, and then later Sarasota, Florida.
Survivors said this week that he will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. O’Day is survived by his wife of 45 years, Terry O’Day of Southampton; a daughter, Christine O’Day of Connecticut; two sons, Kenneth O’Day of Florida and Douglas O’Day of New York City; and a grandson, Aran.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton, where a remembrance service will begin at 11:30 a.m.
