Raymond T. Yastrzemski of Water Mill died November 9 in his sleep, with his daughter by his side, at Southampton Hospital after a brief bout of pneumonia. He was 91.
He was born in Water Mill on October 1, 1923, to Chester Yastrzemski and Josephine Mierzejewski. He was one of five brothers and two sisters.
He was married on May 15, 1949, to Dorothy Irene Truskolaski. They were married for 51 years before her death on October 18, 2000.
The son of a potatoes farmer, he graduated from Southampton High School and went to work for builder William G. Thompson, and was known for his custom cabinetry work. Survivors said he loved baseball and was part of the legendary White Eagles, a local baseball team that included his brothers, relatives and famous nephew Carl M. Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox.
He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard, growing vegetables, feeding his birds and spending time with his granddaughter who lived next door.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Yastrzemski; and two granddaughters, Kelly M. Webb and Dawn M. Webb.
Services were held at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church in Bridgehampton followed by burial at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Southampton. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
