Regina “Jean” Carvis of Hampton Bays died peacefully in her sleep on June 11, surrounded by her family. She was 89.

She and her husband, the late Dr. Thomas Carvis, met and lived in Brooklyn, where they married on August 19, 1950. They started coming out to Hampton Bays in the 1950s, where they loved the beach, fishing and the community. That is why they decided to build a home, business and raise their seven children there. She loved going on trips up and down the East Coast with family, playing Phase 10, knitting, and, of course, Bingo.

In her later years, she enjoyed going to the Hampton Bays Senior Citizen Center, where she would volunteer for anything that was needed. She cared for and loved all the friends she made at the center. She was a strong, beautiful, loving woman who will be deeply missed by all who came to know her, her family said, noting that wherever Jean was, the world was a better place.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Thomas (Patricia), James, Regina, Robert (Michelle), John (Denise), and Paul; her grandsons, Dayna and Evan (Kim) Carvis; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Migliore, Ryan, Ava Rae and Gracie Mae Carvis. She was predeceased by her grandson Thomas Borgo.

A private service will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Hampton Bays Senior Center (southamptontownny.gov/150/Senior-Services) would be appreciated.

Trash Collections

Southampton Town Highway Superintendent Charlie McArdle isn’t wrong when he says that his department shouldn’t bear the cost of emptying the sidewalk trash cans along the main street business districts in Hampton Bays, Bridgehampton, East Quogue and Water Mill. Quietly and abruptly removing those garbage cans on Tumbleweed Tuesday, however, resulting in piles of trash accumulating on the concrete pads where they used to stand, in an effort to draw attention to his complaint, lacked finesse on the highway superintendent’s part. For decades — longer than many can remember — the Highway Department has maintained the sidewalks along Montauk Highway ... by Editorial Board
