On Wednesday, February 28, the Southampton Town Democratic Party hosted a Zoom event for the sole purpose of introducing John Avlon, Democratic candidate for Congressional District 1.
Since this was a Q&A event, Southampton Town Democratic Party Chair Gordon Herr clearly stated at the start that Democratic Committee members would have preference asking questions; then, if time permitted, “others” would have a turn. So, basically, the “others” were left out, since there was a time factor involved.
More consideration for the “others” might have been a better approach to get widespread interest and enthusiasm. I’m sure the “others” came prepared with questions, only to be politely ignored.
At some point, Southampton Town Councilman Tommy John Schiavoni appeared — only his name and voice, no photo. Schiavoni said hello to all, and then had the nerve to suggest to John Avlon about candidates on down ballots, basically saying, I plan to get elected on your coat tails — another elitist from the Southampton Town Democratic Party.
Mr. Schiavoni needs to earn the respect of the voters and not think he can just slide into Fred Thiele’s seat.
