The Retreat has announced that it has received a grant from Newsday Charities to support prevention education programs and a grant from the Ellen Hermanson Foundation for breast health services.
Newsday Charities awarded The Retreat a $15,000 grant for the agency’s Prevention Education programs. These programs deliver school- and community-based workshops to educate the public on domestic/interpersonal violence and available resources. They also help children and teens build self-esteem while enabling them to identify and understand how to manage unhealthy situations and behaviors. The in-school education programs serve local elementary, middle and high schools using age-appropriate curricula.
“We are thrilled to receive the Newsday Charities grant to support our prevention education programs,” said Loretta Davis, executive director at The Retreat. “As a result of this grant, more students will learn healthy relationship skills that will help them avoid and prevent abuse across their lifetimes.”
The Ellen Hermanson Foundation awarded a grant to The Retreat for the second consecutive year. This $5,000 grant supports the organization’s bilingual outreach and micro-grants for related expenses of individuals impacted by breast cancer.
“The Ellen Hermanson Foundation grant will help our clients and survivors focus on their own health which is the last thing they may otherwise do while they are trying to end an unhealthy, abusive relationship,” said Davis.
