Revisit the Plan

The community opposition to the proposed firehouse on Upper Seven Ponds Road, for a multitude of valid reasons, has been well addressed in recent Letters to the Editor of this newspaper. It’s just so difficult to understand why anyone would think it would be a good idea to build such a large structure (three stories with three bays and 40 parking spaces) in a quiet residential area, on a narrow street with no shoulder and no sidewalk. The concerns about the impact on the environment, the character of the area, the safety of the residents and lack of realistic exit route for these large, fast-moving vehicles seem like reason enough that alternate locations should have been sought.

Our understanding is that this plan, which seems to be quite far along, was put in place without a traffic study and with no community involvement.

While we completely support the fire department and appreciate all the hard work and dedication of the firefighters and their concern for Water Mill residents, this is a bad plan and needs to be revisited and given the proper due diligence with the support and involvement of the local authorities and the community.
