Richard Dyson dies at 72

Richard Dyson

Richard Dyson, a lifelong resident of Quogue and Westhampton Beach, died on October 5 at Franklin Hospital Hospice in Valley Stream, New York. He was 72.

Mr. Dyson was born June 1, 1938, in Riverhead to Clarence and Alglaira Dyson. He graduated from Westhampton Beach High School, where he ran track and played basketball, football and baseball. Upon graduation, he was employed by the Quogue Village Highway Department before his retirement as superintendent 35 years later.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie Dyson of Westhampton Beach; two sons, Richard Dyson Jr. of Westhampton Beach and Shaun Dyson of Manorville; a daughter, Donita (Nikki) Smith of Quogue; a sister, Clarice Robbins of Quogue; and nine grandchildren, Damien, Ebony, LeKesha and Brittney Smith of Westhampton Beach, Stephanie, Andre and Kenneth Dyson of Florida and Adriana and Brianna Dyson of Quogue; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Clarence Dyson Jr., William Dyson, Leonard Dyson and George Dyson; two sisters, Mary Rodgers and Dorothy Gillis; and a grandson, Brandon Dyson.

The family received visitors on October 10 at Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. Funeral services, officiated by the Reverend John Greene, followed that evening, also at the funeral home. Cremation was private.
