Richard “Dick” Leroy Lane of East Quogue died at the Westhampton Care Center after a long illness on Wednesday, July 31. He was 78.
Mr. Lane was born on June 2, 1935, in Wisconsin. He joined the US Air Force and while stationed at the Westhampton Air Base he met his wife Pat (McLay). After leaving the Air Force, he went to work for Brookhaven National Lab until he retired in 1997.
Mr. Lane loved to play golf and go to lunch with his friends. He was a well-loved and respected member of the community, according to friends.
Mr. Lane is survived by his two brothers, Donald and wife Nola of Texas, and Earl and wife Louise of Oregon; and seven nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Pat, in 1994 and by his brother, James, and a niece, Janice Hamond.
A gathering of friends will take place on Thursday, August 8, at 5 p.m. at the Quogue East Pub, Montauk Highway in East Quogue.
