Richard O'Brien Of Sag Harbor Dies At Age 80

Richard H. O’Brien

Lifelong Sag Harbor resident Richard H. O’Brien died at Southampton Hospital on March 30 after a short illness. He was 80.

Born in Sag Harbor on December 8, 1931 to Kenneth and Elizabeth O’Brien, he was a graduate of Pierson High School. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea CVA from 1950 to 1954, was a member of the American Legion Post 388, and a founding member of the Sag Harbor Community Band. He was an electrician and eventually worked for the Town of Southampton until he retired. He married Joan Kelly on January 25, 1958. She predeceased him in 1998.

Mr. O’Brien is survived by his three children, Richard H. O’Brien Jr. and his wife Annette of Massachusetts, Kevin P. O’Brien and his wife Deborah of Sag Harbor, and Deirdre O’Brien of East Hampton; and grandchildren, Erin, Kevin, Catherine, Caitlyn, James and Bonnie. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth, and sister, Doris.

Funeral services were held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor on April 2. A funeral Mass was held on April 3 at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church. He was interred in the church cemetery, alongside his wife.

Patricia C. Farrell of Sag Harbor died on November 17 on Quioque. She was 92. A visitation will take place on Friday, November 21, from 3-7 p.m. at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
