Richard P. O’Connell of Sag Harbor died on August 27 at Stony Brook University Hospital. He was 77.
Born April 9, 1931, in Southampton to Anna (née Anderson) and William O’Connell, he was a graduate of Pierson High School. He served for five years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from 1949 to 1953.
Mr. O’Connell retired as the director of plan operations at Southampton Hospital.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Everit Albert Herter Post No. 550 and the Chelberg & Battle American Legion Post 388.
In addition to his wife, Judy Luszcz-O’Connell (née Scudner), he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey, Stephen and Daniel O’Connell; a stepson, Jeff Luszcz; a stepdaughter, Alyson Luszcz; a brother, William O’Connell; five grandchildren, Meredith, Ashley, Meghan, Jacob and Zachariah; and one niece, Sharon Babula.
The family received visitors at Yardley and Pino Funeral Home on August 29 and funeral services were held on August 30 at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor.
