Richard Thomas Fallon Jr. died on January 26, 2018, of complications of multiple sclerosis at his home at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Virginia. He was 75.
Born in the Bronx on November 15, 1942, the only son of Richard T. and Jen V. (Tatnell) Fallon, Mr. Fallon lived with the symptoms of MS for more than three decades. A graduate of Chaminade High School (Class of 1960), and Villanova University (Class of 1964), Mr. Fallon was a creative and spiritual man. He devoted his time and talent to family and to running his own businesses. A pioneer in retail computing systems, he presided over his own company for two decades, during which time he introduced point of sale systems to clients across Long Island.
Mr. Fallon lived for more than four decades in Remsenburg, then retired to Citrus Hills, Florida, with his wife of nearly five decades, Joann Rodgers, whom he married on August 31, 1963. It was in Florida that he took up radio controlled model boat sailing, bocce, playing banjo, singing in a barbershop quartet and woodcarving. A talented carpenter in his younger days, he rediscovered this passion in retirement and joined a community of waterfowl carvers, later earning recognition for his carvings in regional competitions.
When his wife died in 2010, Mr. Fallon moved to Ashburn, but continued to live independently. At Ashby Ponds he captained the bocce team and continued to welcome visits from his large family.
Mr. Fallon is survived by two daughters and a son, Deirdre Parker and husband Steven of Virginia, Christine Kraft and husband Brooks of California, and Richard T. Fallon III and wife Theresa Martell of Massachusetts; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Elaine Boyrer, Maureen Fallon and Kathleen Bohuslaw, all residing on Long Island.
Besides his wife, Joann, Mr. Fallon was predeceased by his parents.
A private memorial is planned for Friday, March 30.
