Robert B. Shanahan
Robert B. Shanahan of Medford, formerly of Bridgehampton, died at his home on February 13. He was 83.
Born and raised in Bridgehampton, Mr. Shanahan graduated in 1947 from Bridgehampton High School. In 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 22 years before retiring as a chief petty officer in 1988. After leaving the service he worked for several years at Gurwin Home for the Aging in Commack. Mr. Shanahan was also a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children, Ken and his partner Fred of Florida, John and Mike of Colorado, Tom Lumley and his wife Kelly of Medford, and Daniel Lumley and his wife Lisa of Sayville; grandchildren, Tara, Kenneth, Katie, Amy, Marissa, Nicole, Deanna, Emily and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Gabriela, Aiden and Khloe; and a sister, Althea Bishop of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Jr.; two grandchildren, Janie and Laura Joy; and a sister, Dottie.
Visitation took place on Thursday, February 16, at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A funeral service was held on Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Coram. Interment followed in Calverton National Cemetery.
