Robert Clinton Butler
Robert Clinton Butler of Saugerties, New York, died on September 30 at the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook. He was 66.
Born May 13, 1944, in Yonkers, to Gaynell McInerney and Robert C. Butler Sr,, he grew up in Dobbs Ferry and Ossining, New York. After attending Pace University in New York and the University of Colorado, he became a mechanic and a school bus driver for the Mahopac Central School Systems, moving upstate to Saugerties after his retirement. He was a decorated veteran who served from 1968 to 1970 in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
According to survivors, Mr. Butler was always a free thinker, philosopher, and story teller who experienced life to the fullest. Involved in the music scene of the 1960s, he managed a number of bands, traveling with them as they toured across the country. His interests and passions included fishing, hunting, and cars. He built his first engine at age 11 and later enjoyed drag racing.
He is survived by a daughter, Brandy Butler Malo and her husband Brent Goger Malo of Southampton and Florida; a stepson, Gilbert V.B. Long Jr. of Poughkeepsie; and a stepdaughter, Stacy A.C. Connolly and her husband Donald Connolly of Yorktown.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 15, at 3:30 p.m. at Kolping-On-Hudson, 95 Montrose Point Road, Montrose, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations to a veterans charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
