Robert Entenmann, founder of Martha Clara Vineyards and Big E Farm, who had a home and kept the family boats in Montauk for many years, died on September 15, at his home in Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida. He was 88.
The former chairman of Entenmann’s, a company founded by his grandfather and sold by the family in 1978, bought a potato farm in Riverhead to raise thoroughbred horses. In 1995, he planted grapes on 18 acres, which became Martha Clara Vineyards, named for his mother.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline; a son, Robert; a brother, Charles; and his former wife, Mary.
A funeral service took place on September 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Islip. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore.
