Robert Herbert Marshall
Robert Herbert Marshall, a lifelong resident of East Quogue, died on August 13 at his home. He was 86.
Born April 28, 1924, to Samuel and Lila Marshall in Michigan, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II aboard the USS Cole. Following his service, he worked for both the Long Island Rail Road and Grumman.
A man of various talents, he was a cook at the Fish Net Restaurant, a bass player in a band and was also a member of the East Quogue Volunteer Fire Department.
Family and friends noted that in his retirement he could often be found enjoying breakfast at Eckart’s after swinging by the local 7-Eleven for his morning cup of coffee. He was also an avid fisherman, and according to his family, his fishing tales will be passed on for generations to come.
He is survived by a son, Robert Marshall of Massachusetts; six grandchildren, John Carter Sr. of Virginia, Thomas Carter of Nebraska, Amy Colavita of New York City, Samantha Devine of New Hampshire, Harper Marshall, also of New Hampshire, and Jordan Marshall of Massachusetts; nine great-grandchildren, John Carter Jr. and Catherine Carter, both of Virginia, Samantha Carter and Thomas Carter Jr., both of Nebraska, Alexander Colavita and Matthew Colavita, both of New York City, and Timber Devine, Riley Devine and Evelyn Marshall, all of New Hampshire.
His wife, Evelyn Marshall and a daughter, Karen Marshall Carter, predeceased him.
The family will receive visitors on August 20 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. A firematic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. that same day, also at the funeral home in Hampton Bays.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. A reception will follow at the East Quogue Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the East Quogue Volunteer Fireman’s Benevolent Association, P.O. Box 565, East Quogue, NY 11942 would be appreciated by the family.
