Robert Murphy of Water Mill died on March 4 at the Westhampton Care Center. He was 90.
Born November 7, 1925, in Richmond Hill, he was the son of Robert and Vivian Murphy. After graduating high school, he attended the Nassau County Police Academy and rose through the ranks of the department to retire as a detective sergeant.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1941 to 1945.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two children, Kathleen D. Murphy of Sound Beach and Robert C. Murphy of Water Mill; and two grandchildren, Sarah A. Murphy and Robert J. Murphy, both of Water Mill. He was predeceased by two sisters, Vivian Geben and Edna Robinson.
Visitation was at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, also in Sag Harbor.
