Robert Noll of Southampton died peacefully on March 20. He was 93.

He was born on July 25, 1931. “Pop,” as he was called by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends was a man who valued family and friends above all else, his family said. He welcomed all to his home and enjoyed seeing everyone enjoying the fruits of his labor. The more the merrier, he would say. People may recall seeing him and his wife, Florence “Meem” Noll, dancing to the music at the concerts in the park or at Meschutt Beach over many years.

He labored hard much of his life and never backed away form hard work. He was able to adapt things to make them work the way he thought they should, at times opposed to the way they were intended. He was mostly successful in these endeavors.

As he got older and slowed down, he found great pleasure in watching the birds. He had multiple feeders in his yard and when weather permitted he and his wife would sit on the deck in the mornings with their coffee and in the afternoons, he with his beer and she with her glass of wine watching and identifying all the birds who came to feed.

The couple also enjoyed driving over the Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays a few times a week to look at the ocean and make sure it was still there.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends, his family said.

He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Florence “Meem” Noll; and his granddaughter Jessica Rewinski. He is survived by his daughters Florence Pratt, Cathryne Rewinski (David), and Cecelia Gravano (Stephen); grandchildren Kimberly Carr (Christopher), Matthew and Robert Pratt, Jonathan (Amanda) and Geoffrey (Morgan) Rewinski, and Brian, Adam, and Evan Gravano; and great-grandchildren Christopher, Courtney, Thomas, and Andrew Carr, Nora Rewinski, and Rose Rewinski.

A memorial will take place at R.J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Saturday, April 5, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Donations may be made to East End Hospice (eeh.org), National Audubon Society (audubon.org), or the PAN Foundation (panfoundation.org).

All local stories matter. They matter to some portion of readers, and they certainly matter to the journalists sharing them. But there’s always an article that hits home a little more than others. Bill Sutton, who is the managing editor of The Express News Group, was never comfortable being in the pages of our newspapers. But he agreed, because his story is so important — and can help so many others — because he needs a donor kidney. He’s not alone: There are some 100,000 people in the United States alone who need life-saving organ donations. It’s testament to modern ... 4 Jun 2025 by Editorial Board

A Place To Play

Shinnecock Hills and Tuckahoe make up a mecca for golfers, with four world-class golf courses shoulder to shoulder: Shinnecock Hills, the National Golf Links of America, Sebonack and Southampton. Sebonack is the new kid on the block, opened in 2006 and designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak, but it’s already developed an international reputation, hosted a Women’s U.S. Open and made the list of the nation’s 100 best courses. Nearby are The National, which dates to 1911, and Shinnecock Hills, founded in 1891, the celebrity courses that every golfer knows and dreams of playing.
