Robert W. Brown of Southampton died on March 4 at Stony Brook Hospital. He was 82.
He was born on March 13, 1941, to James and Dorothy Brown of Bridgehampton, the third of nine brothers and sisters. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.
He married Nora Malone of Southampton in May 1962.
Brown was the former superintendent of the Southampton Village Highway Department, in which he was employed for over 30 years. He served his community as a member of the Southampton Fire Department’s Hook and Ladder Company for 35 years, and prior to that was a member of the Bridgehampton Fire Department for five years.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to garden and spend time with his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, James. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nora; son Barry and his wife Lara; three grandchildren, Seamus, Mick and Bailey, all of Southampton; his brothers, Frank, Michael, and Patrick; sisters Margaret and Georgia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton; with a full firematic service, and he was interred at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
