Starting on Monday, January 13, the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village will be closed for two to three weeks to accommodate some of the noisier and more disruptive aspects of a revitalization campaign that includes significant upgrades to the interior of the building.
While an exact reopening date has yet to be determined, patrons are encouraged to check the library website, myrml.org, for updates on reopening.
After the initial two-to-three-week temporary closure, the library will open again, and will remain open throughout February, before temporarily closing again around mid-March for the second phase of the revitalization campaign.
Rogers Memorial Library patrons are encouraged to visit neighboring libraries such as Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, John Jermain Library in Sag Harbor, and the Hampton Bays Public Library during the closure, as those libraries will offer full services to Rogers Memorial Library cardholders.
During the temporary closure, the outside return bins will be closed, so patrons looking to return library materials are encouraged to hold on to them until the library reopens, or make their returns at any other library in Suffolk County. Late fees will not be assessed during the closure.
Online services will remain available to patrons during the closure.
Between now and January 13, patrons can call the library with any questions at the circulation desk at 631-283-0774 (prompt #2).
The $2 million revitalization project includes an expansion of the teen department, new furnishings and library tables throughout the entire library, moving the reference desk from the lower level to the main floor, updating the Next-Gen Tech Lab, adding three new quiet study rooms, creation of an office space for outreach services, expansion of the children’s play area, and the addition of a library cafe, which will serve hot and cold beverages and bakery items.
