Another bizarre incident in the saga of Southampton Village: Four trustees excluded the mayor from the process of identifying a new police chief [“Southampton Village Hires New Police Chief Over Objections of Mayor,” 27east.com, December 12]. Ignoring potential input from the mayor, the trustees have added another expensive employee, including 30 years of retirement and health care benefits.
The right decision is to hire internally. Does anyone in the village believe they are less safe with Captain Suzanne Hurteau in the position of interim police chief?
The rogue trustees have decided to add to our disastrous financial condition.
A sad day in village governance.
