Ronald J. Papageorge of Castelton, New York, and formerly of Southampton, died peacefully at home on July 20. He was 80.
Born on January 11, 1945, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Geraldine (D’Agostino) and Sam Papageorge. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience.
After returning home, he pursued his education at City College, laying the groundwork for a successful and multifaceted career. He later became the president of Lifetime Motors in Southampton, where he earned a reputation for excellence, specializing in BMWs and Subarus. Beyond the world of automobiles, he nurtured a lifelong passion for photography, particularly architectural photography. His keen eye and artistic vision led to the publication of two books, created in collaboration with his devoted wife of 49 years, Toby T. (Trustman) Papageorge.
He was an active member of Photographers East and remained committed to the arts throughout his life. Six years ago, he and his wife relocated to Castleton, where they found not just a home, but a warm, welcoming community. Their time there was filled with joy, friendship, and fulfillment, what they often described as the best six years of their lives.
He is survived by his wife Toby; his sisters Pamela (Joseph) Severino and Eileen (Eric) Barat; his nephew Christopher (Lisa) Butcher; his niece Lauren (Martin) Gigner; and two great-nephews, Imogen and Callum Gigner. He was predeceased by his parents, Geraldine and Sam.
Services took place on July 25, at the Castleton Funeral Home. Interment with U.S. Navy Honors took place following the funeral service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10001.
