Russell 'Jim' Smyth, owner of The Corner Bar dies

Russell Jim" Smyth, 67, of North Haven and owner of The Corner Bar and Restaurant in Sag Harbor, died on June 19, 2017.

Mr. Smyth was an active member in his community, where he lived for 55 years. He was formerly a North Haven Village trustee, and prior to that served on the village planning board from 1994 to 2002. As a longtime village trustee, Mr. Smyth played a role in beautification projects, and he worked with the board to keep the deer population at bay.

When Laura Nolan resigned from her position as mayor of North Haven Village in May of 2013, Mr. Smyth, then the deputy mayor, stepped in as acting mayor until Jeff Sander was appointed to the position that July. Mr. Smyth did not seek positions after that term because he was looking forward to retirement with his wife, Margaret Smyth.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.
