Russell T. Christoffersen, a resident of Southampton and Sarasota, Florida, died on March 19 at Southampton Hospital. He was 60.?Born May 2, 1947, in Brooklyn to Tillie and Christian Christoffersen, he earned a bachelor's degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a bachelor of fine arts from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City.?He worked on the faculty at ?Parsons School of Design and ?Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture. As a freelance studio artist, ?Mr. Christoffersen counted artists ?James Rosenquist, LeRoy Neiman ?and Robert Natkin among his ?peers. He received many professional awards for his work, including a ?Fulbright fellowship, a Pollack/Krasner Foundation grant and a Yaddo ?residency, among others.?Mr. Christoffersen is survived by his mother; a sister, Ellen Andersen; a brother, Christian Christoffersen; a niece; a nephew; a great-niece; and many other relatives and friends.?He was predeceased by his father.?Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, were private. A memorial service will be announced in a future edition of The Press.
