Ruth Beck Pettorini of Speonk died on February 6. She was 96.
She was born on January 25, 1925 to William and Annie Cook in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
A graduate of Salem Teachers College, in Salem, Massachusetts, she taught at Remsenburg Elementary School and Central Islip Elementary School, before working at Strebel’s Laundry for 25 years.
She was known for giving away baby blankets she made to all of her family, friends and acquaintances. She was a lover of all puzzles, the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Woodman’s fried clams.
Ms. Pettorini, or Gram, as she was best known, according to her family, is survived by her daughter, Ruth Jane Swaine (Charlie) of Amityville; her son, John R Beck (Jennie) of Westhampton Beach; her grandchildren Julie Pomroy (Steve) of Speonk, Jacki Zommers (Taras) of Needham, Massachusetts, Jodi Coderre (Chris) of N. Providence, Rhose Isalnd, William Beck of Westhampton Beach, and Tia Beck (Tim) of Riverhead. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren between the ages of 7 and 27.
A private ceremony was held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a cause of one’s personal choosing.
