Ruth Bragarick
Ruth Bragarnick, formerly of Westhampton, died at her home in Lantana, Florida, on Sunday, January 23. She was 96.
Born to Nels and Ida Welander, she was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School. While residing in Manhattan, she was the editor of “True Experiences” magazine and was active in several charitable organizations. She served on the board of directors and was president of the Girls Clubs of New York, now BronxWorks. Ms. Bragarnick was a resident of Westhampton and Quogue for several years and was a devoted and active volunteer for the Family Counseling Services. She served as director of development, worked on many fundraising galas, antique and classic car shows and was instrumental in having jazz legend, Dr. Billy Taylor, do a benefit for them. As the result of her tireless efforts on their behalf, she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2000.
Ms. Bragarnick was predeceased by her husband, Robert Bragarnick; a daughter, Ellen; and two sisters, Gertrude Swanson and Mim Gunkleman. She is survived by a son, Peter Bragarnick, nephews and nieces.
