Former Southampton resident Ruth Nugent Ellis of Sarasota, Florida, died at home on January 5. She was 87.
Born June 21, 1922, in Southampton to Dr. John H. Nugent and Marie Moffitt Nugent, during her time in Southampton, she was associated with the Parrish Art Museum. Following her divorce from her first husband, Fred B. Maness, she married Lawrence E. Ellis on January 18, 1969, and the couple moved to Florida.
She is survived by a son, Michael Maness of Florida; a sister, Betty Cook of Greenport; a stepson, David Ellis of Canada; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Ellis Farlinger of Florida; and three step-granddaughters.
Her husband Lawrence E. Ellis, a daughter, Kathleen O’Brien Maness, and a brother, John M. Nugent, all predeceased her.
A memorial service was held on April 29 at the Pine Shores Presbyterian Church in Florida.
