Former Southampton resident Sadie Mae Clark of John Wesley Village in Riverhead died on December 9 at her home. She was 83.
Born October 27, 1925, in Dinwiddie, Virginia, to Martha Wyche and Rossi Fields, she moved with her family to Bridgehampton, where she attended public school.
She was a dedicated member of the Community Baptist Church of Southampton for most of her adult life, serving on the usher board, the culinary committee, pastor’s aid and floral club and even taught Sunday School. She also was a missionary of the church and served as clerk, treasurer, and financial secretary and was a trustee until her death.
Employed at the Huntting Lane Rest Home in East Hampton until her retirement, she was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress who had a love for books and crafts, including needlepoint and crochet.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Jacob and Brenda Clark and James and Mary Clark, all of Georgia, and Bruce and Edwina Clark of Ohio; two sisters, Audrey Gaines of East Hampton and Ameena and her husband Abdullah Zuhri of Georgia; a brother, Rossie Winbush of New Jersey; two granddaughters, Aisha Williams Clark and Cierra Clark; four grandsons, Bruce Clark II, Justin Clark, Jarren Clark and Michael Clark; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Clark, and several siblings.
A funeral service, officiated by the Reverend Donald E. Butler, was held on December 15 at Community Baptist Church in Southampton. Interment was at Southampton Cemetery.
