Sag Harbor Mayor-Elect Will Nominate Edward Haye To Complete His Term On Village Board

Sag Harbor Mayor-elect James Larocca on Wednesday said he would nominate Edward Haye, a retired attorney, to complete the year remaining on his term as Village Board trustee.

Mr. Haye is a 1977 graduate of Pierson High School who attended Dartmouth College and Fordham Law School. He served on the Sag Harbor School Board a decade ago.

Most recently, Mr. Haye lived in Philadelphia and served as vice president and deputy general counsel for American Water, a utility based in Camden, New Jersey. Mr. Larocca said Mr. Haye was still working with the company, but he did not know in what capacity.

Mr. Haye could not be reached for comment in time for this edition’s deadline, but Mr. Larocca said that Mr. Haye had moved back to his home in the village during the coronavirus pandemic and planned to be a full-time village resident.

“He is stepping up with enthusiasm,” Mr. Larocca said of his choice.

Mr. Larocca will be sworn in at noon on Tuesday, July 6, at John Steinbeck Waterfront Park, where the board will also hold its annual organizational meeting.

It will be only the board’s second public meeting in more than a year. It held a forum on waterfront development in Steinbeck Park in late April, just a week before Mr. Larocca announced he would challenge incumbent Mayor Kathleen Mulcahy.

Mr. Larocca said he chose the park, which he helped obtain for the village as a trustee, for his first meeting as new mayor because “we are emerging from COVID and we live in a beautiful place.”

Mr. Larocca edged Ms. Mulcahy by 22 votes in a bitterly fought campaign this spring. Two other incumbent trustees, Aidan Corish and Bob Plumb, were also reelected.
