The Sagaponack School District adopted its proposed budget for the 2012-13 school year on Tuesday night, increasing spending by a little more than $40,000.
The approximately $1.7 million budget is a hike of 2.6 percent over last year, driven primarily by salary increases and additional busing costs to transport students who are attending private schools.
The tax levy for the district’s residents will increase by just $29,000, or 1.8 percent, staying under the state-mandated 2-percent tax levy cap.
Because the district’s property assessment has increased since last year, however, the tax rate passed on to residents is expected to remain essentially level, according to district School Board Chairman Joseph Louchheim.
