Sagaponack School Board President Charles Barbour is the only member of the board up for reelection this year and he recently picked up his petition to run for another 3-year term. Three people sit on the board.
The School Board petitions require 25 signatures and are due on Monday, April 21.
The tiny district, which has nine students in grades one through four this year and anticipates 15 students next year, does not have a voting machine and engages in a slightly unusual election process.
Balloting begins at 7:30 p.m. on May 20 and, according to district clerk Jeanette Krempler, is usually completed within 20 minutes to half an hour. On average, 30 to 40 people turn out for the vote.
Absentee ballots are available at the school.
The district has not yet adopted a budget, but will need to mail out postcards with budget figures by Friday, April 25, and will likely make the budget available after that time.
The budget is scheduled to be adopted on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. after a board meeting at which the public can speak on budget issues from 6:45 to 7:25 p.m.
