Not Alone

We say the sun comes up because it looks that way. But, really, if we could feel it, this planet, our singular home, tilting and spinning, we might call it something else. Above the ocean, on the horizon, there is a fiery streak, a line of crimson that makes any person awake to see it come very awake. All else of the predawn sky is at its darkest. And yet the glass greenhouse on the hill is perfectly positioned to capture that sliver of red light and send it like a flame to the flat geometry of its length and ... 24 Jan 2023 by Marilee Foster

Big Words

The people in attendance in Bridgehampton were highly diverse: older and younger, African Americans and whites and Shinnecock Nation members. “It is good to be together and learn more about each other,” said Rev. Outraged, Maya stopped me and entered the store to request that the cashier get on the loudspeaker and ask the person to move their car. The cashier replied with indifference that they had no loudspeaker. Maya discovered that the person at ... by By Lorna Coppola

OLA Awarded $200,000 Grant From Suffolk County Opioid Settlement Fund

Suffolk County has awarded OLA of Eastern Long Island $200,000 a year for three years to work to combat substance use and abuse on Long Island’s East End. The support comes from the Opioid Settlement Fund that resulted from a lawsuit that Suffolk County filed against major drug companies and retail pharmacies in 2016.
