In honor of Memorial Day, members of Southampton High School’s Mariners Patriot Club continued their tradition of placing flags on the graves of veterans at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. The flags will be collected by the volunteers after Memorial Day. COURTESY SOUTHAMPTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
Hampton Bays High School seniors Brianna Quiros and Liam Sutton were recently honored by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as winners of the Suffolk Zone Award. The seniors were selected based on their outstanding character, exceptional leadership in the school environment, and status as a physical fitness role model for other students. Quiros, a member of the Hampton Bays volleyball team, will be attending Quinnipiac University in the fall. Eastport Elementary School fourth-grader Anthony Pasquale took third place in the grade 4 category of the Kenneth F. Gambone Writing Contest, sponsored by the Long Island Language Arts Council. Each participant must enter two pieces of writing that are submitted by a member of the council. The first piece is a timed, on-demand writing response to the prompt “Right outside my window …” The second piece is student-selected from his/her portfolio. Westhampton Beach High School seniors, dressed in their best, learned more about the careers they hope to pursue during the 19th annual Senior Skills Breakfast held at the Westhampton Country Club on May 19. During the breakfast, over 40 area professionals served as mentors and shared their knowledge, experience and advice. Fields represented included medicine, science, engineering, film and finance. The event was planned by the Westhampton Beach Business Advisory Committee and sponsored by the Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce, Westhampton Kiwanis and First National Bank. During the second annual Breakfast of Champions on May 16, the Eastport-South Manor Central School District honored 20 Junior-Senior High School students who exhibit exemplary character and conduct on a daily basis. In the tradition of Wheaties cereal, which for decades has honored champions by placing their photos on cereal boxes, the administration and faculty recognized these students who have made daily contributions to the school community.
