Westhampton Beach High School senior Willow DuBrovin earned a black belt in Soo Bahk Do, the oldest Korean martial art. Doing so required her to take part in a three-hour test with no breaks. She demonstrated mastery of basic moves, 120 standard/jump kicks, three forms, two rounds of sparring, 120 punches in 30 seconds, one-step sparring, self-defense, a jump-back kick double board break, general knowledge and an essay. Students and staff from Raynor Country Day School visited Mystic, CT, last week. Upon arrival, the group visited the Mystic Aquarium and then explored Mystic Seaport. In addition to visiting the many shops and businesses on the seaport boardwalk, the group boarded the historic Charles W. Morgan. The group explored the restored 1841 whaleship from the bottom bunk to the top mast. Following the full-day adventure, the group boarded the ferry and headed back to Long Island. As part of a districtwide social and emotional learning day, Southampton High School hosted a color run on May 21. Students ran on the school’s track and were coated in colors as they raced. The day also featured a workshop and circle activities presented by the Eagle Academy Foundation and I Dream organization. At the elementary and intermediate schools, students were treated to special performances by the Harlem Wizards and other social and emotional learning activities throughout the day.
