Members of the Hampton Bays Elementary School service organization K-Kids recently donated $300 to the American Cancer Society as part of their annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser. They raised the funds by selling breast cancer awareness bracelets to fellow students, teachers and administrators. Students and staff also wore pink on October 24 in honor of the cause. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350 and American Legion Post 924 recently visited Hampton Bays High School to speak to social studies students about the annual Voice of Democracy essay contest and share powerful accounts of their experiences serving in different branches of the U.S. military. They spoke about the significance of service to one’s school, community and country and encouraged students to consider the many ways they can make a difference. In recognition of National Fire Prevention Week, Southampton Elementary School students received hands-on lessons in fire safety from members of the Southampton Fire Department. Students explored the department’s fire trucks, examined firefighting tools and learned essential fire safety tips. They also participated in a smoke house simulation.
